Ideal Body Weight
What is Your Ideal Body Weight?
In the past, many fitness books would publish a chart of ideal weight. Often, the figures would list height corresponding to weight. Many readers would look at the charts and discover they are "way above" their ideal weights. Then, they would look in the mirror and wonder why they don't look overweight. It is probably because the chart simply was not accurate. One criterion (height defines weight) is simply not enough to ascertain ideal weight. Thankfully, these charts are a thing of the past thanks to ideal weight calculators.
However, it is also important to note than ideal weight is sometimes subjective and sometimes it is objective. That is, if you are 8 lbs over your ideal weight, it may not necessarily mean your physical appearance will be poor. After all, even if you are carrying extra fat tissue it may not seriously affect appearance. Personal preference and opinion will weigh heavily on how you wish to approach the goals of ideal weight.
How much does your frame size affect your weight?
Is there truth to the heavy weight, big bones, big frame? Not really. Bone weight depends on how much a person's entire body weighs. Bones make up around 15% of a person's total body weight. While people do have different frame size, most who weigh too much for their height do so because of excess body fat. Body builders are the exception. Remember muscle mass weighs more than fat and lean muscles make you look thinner (so if you have lots of muscles you may weigh more but look thinner).
Most weight charts take into effect your frame size. Many weight charts have 10 pound increments in each frame size; small, medium, and large. That is a 30 pound swing for any given height, so if you look at the chart and say to yourself, "I'm big boned and should weight more than that", well, maybe 10-15 pounds. Being big-boned or small boned doesn't justify a 20-25 pounds differential from a normal size person. If you are truly convinced you are not overweight just big boned. Buy a body fat scale. These scales can actually measure your fat percentage. But don't count on insurance companies changing your premiums; they strictly go by their charts. Remember to continue to treat your body with care so that it can help you to do all the things you enjoy.

FRAME SIZE
If you have always wondered what size frame you are, here is the method the insurance company used. This will be easier with the help of a friend.
- Extend your arm in front of your body bending your elbow at a ninety degree angle to your body. (your arm is parallel to your body).
- Keep your fingers straight and turn the inside of your wrist to your body.
- Place your thumb and index finger on the two prominent bones on either side of your elbow, measure the distance between the bones with a tape measure or calipers.
- Compare to the medium-framed chart below. Select your height based on what you are barefoot. If you are below the listed inches, your frame is small. If you are above, your frame is large.
